Photo Genesis (Intense Pulsed Light Treament)
For Treatment of Skin Redness, Brown Spots And Sun Damage
Introduction - Intense pulsed light treatment by employing a broad spectrum of light energy in a range of wavelengths, supplies high energy levels of light power in millisecond bursts to the skin. This treatment improves sun-damage, age spots (sun-induced freckles), broken capillaries, facial veins, and numerous other facial imperfections. The beauty of this non-invasive treatment is that there is virtually no “down-time”. A treatment takes only 30 minutes, and you can return to work or daily activities immediately. It is administered in a series of 3 to 5 treatment sessions, providing gradual, natural improvement.
The Photo Genesis difference.
Comfort. The Cutera Company has created a pulsed light system that is exceptionally effective for treating skin redness (rosacea), brown spots and sun damage at a comfortable energy level. Basically, an intense pulse of light is delivered to your skin. The light is absorbed in the superficial layers of the skin
There is no need to apply topical anesthetic or gel beforehand, and you can appreciate results in just two or three treatments.
What areas can be treated?
Virtually any part of your body with uneven skin tone, diffuse redness, or sun and age spots or freckles can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders, and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they have typically had the most sun exposure. Discrete brown spots, excessively ruddy complexions and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment.
What does the treatment do?
The visible light delivered by the Solar Genesis procedure is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots and red areas on your skin. It's the heating of the pigmented cells that causes the therapeutic effect.
Is it true that I'll need to arrive an hour early to apply a numbing cream?
No. Unlike other systems, the Solar Genesis treatment requires no topical anesthetic or gels before treatment - Gel is messy, time consuming, and uncomfortable. Solar Genesis therapy is the next generation in pulsed light treatments. No gel!
What do treatments feel like?
When the hand piece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable.
When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief pinching sensation.
How long will the treatment take?
The actual treatment will 15 to 30 minutes. And, since there is no need to apply gel or any topical anesthetic, your total appointment time can easily fit into your lunch hour.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically, three to four treatments are sufficient to see nice results.
Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas.
What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one to three weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off. Your mottled complexion should begin to lighten. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
When will I see results?
Most patients find the majority of their treated spots have shown significant improvement within two to three weeks of treatment. However, your final result may not be apparent for a month or more.
Are there any side effects?
The brown spots darken after treatment and crusting begins within a few days. The crusting resolves in 1 –2 weeks. While crusting is present, moisturizing the skin with lotion or cream may enhance healing. Localized redness may be present but usually resolves in 24 – 48 hours. If prolonged, future treatments should be preformed at a lower energy level. If a wound develops (break down of skin) an antibiotic may be recommended. Skin breakdown however is very rare. Patients should avoid artificial tanning or sun exposure without sun protection in the four weeks following treatment to avoid altered pigmentation in the treated area.
Will the spots and redness reappear over time?
Over time new spots may appear if there is sufficient sun exposure. These too can be removed. Remember to liberally apply sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and excessive redness.
Can all of my spots be treated this way?
Spots formed by sun exposure can effectively be treated with the Solar Genesis procedure. There are, however, other types of pigmented lesions, such as birthmarks and moles that may require other treatments. Consult with your medical professional to identify the spots most likely to respond well to Solar Genesis Skin Therapy.
